290,000 fan accounts blow up… BTS Suga drunk driving, fandom splits

The fandom division is deepening as 290,000 fan accounts disappear due to BTS Suga's drunk driving incident.

As of the 13th, it was confirmed that a BTS fan account with 290,000 followers on X (former Twitter) has disappeared.

This account, which previously operated as 'BTS Music Information Team (BTS Music Team)', wrote on X on the 9th, "Everyone is being harmed. Please make a quick decision." They spoke out when the BTS members were affected by Suga's drunk driving incident. This post became a hot topic, garnering 26 million views.

However, the post was met with backlash from some ARMYs (BTS fandom name). Some ARMYs continued to criticize BTS Music Team, leaving comments such as "Is the Music Team really that bad?", "It seems they crossed the line", and "They're being too harsh." After attacking Suga, the number of followers also decreased by 10,000 to 280,000.

On the same day, some ARMYs launched an all-out attack with hashtags with the intent of ‘Suga leaving’, but there was also an incident where the hashtags disappeared all at once. As of 11 AM on the 12th, ‘#MinYoongi_VoluntallyWithdraw’, ‘#DrunkDriver_MinYoongi_Withdraw’, and ‘#SUGA_VoluntallyWithdraw’ were ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th on the real-time trending list. Netizens are speculating that the hashtags were taken down due to the all-out ‘hashtag report’ by some hardline ARMYs.

Earlier, on the 7th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that they had investigated Suga on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). The previous day, Suga was found lying alone in the Yongsan-gu area while riding an electric scooter while intoxicated. In response, Suga and his agency Big Hit Music released an official statement, but they were criticized for trying to hastily cover up the incident by using expressions such as “electric scooter” as “electric kickboard,” “750m travel” as “500m in a straight line,” and “there was no loss of life or property.” In addition, on the 9th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul revealed that Suga’s blood alcohol level was 0.227% at the time of the incident, and Suga’s statement that he had “drank a glass of beer” at the police station was revealed to be a lie, causing controversy once again.
